For UConn place kicker Roberto “Bobby” Puyol ’16, the pressure and excitement adds to the thrill of the game.

Shantaram Hegde Will Teach, Mentor, Encourage Colleagues in India
One of the most respected and accomplished faculty members in the Finance Department has received a Fulbright Specialist Award to mentor doctoral students and faculty in India.
Professor Shantaram ‘Shanta’ Hegde said he is pleased to have received the Fulbright, which is one of the most competitive, prestigious and selective awards in the world. His assignment is to instruct some 30- to 40- students and faculty on financial research, a field in which he is considered one of the most prolific journal contributors in the United States.Continue Reading
UConn Graduates Scott and Krista Yaglowski are Doing Double Duty Overseas
Walking the nighttime perimeter of his base in Kabul, Afghanistan, First Lieutenant Scott Yaglowski ’12 (CLAS) may well be dreaming of wings. Wings from Wings Over Storrs. The West Texas Mesquite to be precise.
Yaglowski says going out for those wings is one of the first things he plans to do when his tour ends and he comes home to Connecticut, in December or January. At the top of his list, however, is seeing his family in Newington and hugging his little sister.
Unfortunately he will have to wait a bit longer to hug his older sister. Krista Yaglowski ’09 (BUS), also an Army First Lieutenant in the Connecticut National Guard, is stationed in Kosovo until the spring.
Professor John Phillips Named Outstanding Tax Educator
Wins Prestigious Award Named After His Career Mentor
When UConn accounting professor John Phillips received the 2015 Ray M. Sommerfeld Outstanding Tax Educator Award, his peers and students described him as a great teacher, researcher, colleague and all-around good human being.
The prestigious award, given by the American Taxation Association and the Ernst & Young Foundation, was humbling, said Phillips, who is also the coordinator of the School of Business Accounting Ph.D. Program.Continue Reading

Credits UConn Professors for Giving Her Confidence
UConn alumna Erin Henry ’14 Ph.D. recently received the American Taxation Association/PricewaterhouseCoopers Outstanding Dissertation Award for the research she completed as a UConn doctoral candidate.
Henry, who is now a professor at the University of Tennessee, submitted her dissertation work titled, “The Information Content of Tax Expense: a firm and Market-level Return Decomposition.”Continue Reading
