Students “Make Data Tell a Story” in MSBAPM Capstone Course
Analyze…Manage…Communicate… Analyze an industrial size dataset, manage the project risk and time commitment, present and “sell” your results to all the stakeholders. This was the theme of the capstone course in the MS in Business Analytics and Project Management (MSBAPM) program, taught by Sudip Bhattacharjee, Mark Tschiegg, and Michael Vandusen from January – April 2013. The UConn MSFRM program will place more emphasis on practical applications, and operational and behavioral issues in risk management. Through collaboration with the financial services industry in the State of Connecticut, the program will provide a forum for interaction of academics and practitioners to focus on the practice of creating economic value by managing exposure to risk.
Ph.D. Student Teaching Awards 2013
On February 27, business PhD students and coordinators for the five Ph.D. concentrations celebrated student accomplishments during the last year at the sixth annual “Ph.D. Student Night of Appreciation.” School of Business Dean John Elliott was also in attendance, providing the doctoral students with an opportunity to chat with him informally.
At this event, we announced the winners of the school’s 2013 PhD Student Teaching Awards. Each of the five Ph.D. program concentrations gave a teaching award to a qualified student in their concentration. The coordinators of the five concentrations (John Phillips – ACCT, Joseph Golec – FNCE, Qing Cao – MGMT, Bill Ross – MKTG, and Jan Stallaert – OPIM) then decided as a group which of the winners of a teaching award in a concentration would receive this year’s School of Business teaching award. Dean Elliott made the announcement.

UConn MBAs Take 1st Place in Illinois Strategy Case Competition
A team of four University of Connecticut MBA candidates took first place in the fifth annual MBA Strategy Case Competition hosted by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, held February 7-9. Ten schools participated in the competition: Arizona State, Baylor, Connecticut, Hong Kong UST, Illinois, Iowa State, Michigan State, Minnesota, Penn State, and Purdue. Continue Reading
MBAs Enhancing “The Palace – Stamford Center for the Arts” Brand
Experiential learning in action. As part of Professor Wynd Harris‘ strategic brand marketing class at the University of Connecticut-Stamford, MBA candidates received a backstage tour of The Palace Theatre prior to attending a live performance of The Temptations & The Four Tops last Wednesday evening. The experience is all part of an introduction to their semester-long team project to help enhance “The Palace – Stamford Center for the Arts” brand.
The MBA candidates will create a brand audit review and a brand-oriented marketing action program for “The Palace – Stamford Center for the Arts,” and will be meeting with The Palace management team throughout the course. Each team will present their findings and recommendations to management at the end of the semester.
UConn MBAs Sweep APICS Case Competition
University of Connecticut MBAs took the first, second, and third places in the APICS Northeast Region graduate level student case competition held in Albany February 1–2, 2013. Twenty-one teams from across the northeast participated, including undergraduate and MBA teams. Continue Reading
