Hartford’s ‘AI Day’ Draws Record Attendance

UConn Today – Ateam of tech-savvy UConn undergraduates taught dozens of Greater Hartford business managers, executives, and fellow students how to identify a brain tumor on a CT scan in less than two minutes.

Using Google Teachable Machine, they demonstrated how artificial intelligence can be used to ‘train’ a program to differentiate between scans of healthy brains and those raising red flags. Within minutes, participants were able to analyze new, uncategorized brain images on their laptops.

Hartford, Stamford Campuses Open ‘Innovate Labs’ Where Technology, Fun, and New Skills Connect

UConn Today – Freshman Barbara Hawke Lopez was the captain of her high school robotics team and enjoys coding and emerging technology.

When she discovered that Innovate Labs was opening a facility on the UConn Stamford campus, with hands-on learning opportunities in emerging technology, she was intrigued.

Today, Hawke Lopez is employed as a lab assistant there, teaching her peers how to experiment with new technology, and helping them develop their confidence in the automation of the future.

The Initiative, which is led by three UConn business professors with deep roots in business innovation and analysis, is available for industry partnerships, research, and workforce development. The leadership’s expertise includes artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics, and emerging technology.

UConn Today – Sophomore Samarth Gupta ‘26 stood in front a room filled with business leaders at Hartford AI Day and explained why artificial intelligence can dramatically improve everyday life.

MIT has created ICU Intervene, which predicts what treatments will be most effective for critically ill patients, he said. Paypal uses AI to analyze transactions to curtail cybersecurity fraud. And Amazon is using image detection to support a ‘smart store,’ which eliminates the need to wait in checkout lines.
