Logan Bement is a senior marketing major who has worked for the Boston Red Sox for the last three summers. Logan worked on the marketing and execution of fan clubs including pricing and packaging, organizing the different benefits for each club and analyzing data and market research. She received this internship by attending the Fall Career Fair and learned more through her business fraternity, Pi Sigma Epsilon. Scholarship Allows Student to Stretch Academically

Katie Cavanaugh ’17 only just started her junior year, but she has already done four internships and held three research positions. Oh, and she’s double majoring in political science and management information systems.

Cavanaugh has never held back academically. She is grateful for the scholarships she has gotten from UConn because they have allowed her to stretch.

“What the scholarships say to me is ‘we want you to focus 100 percent on yourself as a student and, really, as a professional,'” she says.

Students Give High Grades to Summer Business Certificate Program

When she graduates from UConn next year, senior Nicole McDonald ’16 wants to use her communication-design major to make the world a more beautiful place.

But she also wants to be able to negotiate a fair contract with clients and have knowledge that will help her if she decides to start her own company.

“If you want to have a career in art, you really have to understand business,” said McDonald. But because her art classes are offered in three-hour blocks, she had trouble squeezing in the business courses she wanted.Continue Reading

Nobel Prize Winner Shares Business Wisdom at Commencement

Working in business is a noble profession, and its success should be measured not exclusively by profit but in helping others meet their goals.

That was the wisdom shared by undergraduate Commencement speaker Robert J. Shiller, a Yale University professor and the winner of the 2013 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences.

Shiller discussed the perceived contradiction between profit and corporate benevolence. But that need not be the case, he said, urging the new graduates to conduct themselves with personal and professional integrity and to never lose sight of the communities they serve.Continue Reading
