UConn Graduate Programs Ranked Among the Best in the Nation

UConn Today – The University of Connecticut offers graduate programs across a wide variety of fields and disciplines that rank among the very best in the United States, according to rankings released Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report.

“We are proud to see our graduate programs recognized among the nation’s best in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings,” says Provost and Chief Academic Officer Anne D’Alleva. “This achievement reflects the exceptional dedication of our faculty, the talent of our students, and our continued investment in graduate education.”

Alum’s New Book, ‘The Husky Effect,’ Shares Entrepreneur-Husband’s Story, UConn’s Dedication to Future Innovators

UConn Today – As the wife of a serial entrepreneur, alumna Antoinetta “Toni” Boucher ’02 MBA had a front-row seat to the passion, determination, and business challenges her husband experienced.

Henry “Bud” Boucher, a successful management consultant, had invented personal care items, worked with a team to develop an inflatable bed, partnered on novel medical devices, and more. Like many entrepreneurs, he was driven by the allure of building something of his own.

UConn Online Grad Programs Lauded for Quality, Value for Veterans

UConn Today – Several of UConn’s online graduate programs are highly ranked for the quality, value, and flexibility they offer to veterans, including one that recently earned the top spot nationwide in U.S. News & World Report’s annual review.

The UConn School of Nursing’s programs were named No. 1 for veterans wishing to pursue online graduate studies in that field, along with high rankings for others: the School of Business (no. 8); the College of Engineering (no. 22); and the business school’s MBA program (no. 62).

Patricia “Tricia” Margarido, a 2019 graduate of UConn’s Executive MBA program, leads a critical care team that takes care of patients in the most desperate, dire, and frightening moments of their lives.

She and her colleagues at Hartford Hospital’s LIFE STAR program treat patients 1,500 feet in the air, in the tight confines of a moving helicopter, assisted by equipment with the technological capacity found in an ICU. Their workspace is 11-by-5 feet, and their missions often take place in the darkness of night.

Swimsuit Entrepreneur, UConn Alum Hayley Segar to Appear on ‘Shark Tank’

UConn Today – Women’s swimsuit entrepreneur and UConn alum Hayley Segar ’17 (CLAS) will appear on next week’s segment of “Shark Tank,’’ the competitive entrepreneurship TV show with almost 3 million viewers.

Segar, whose swimsuit company onewith came to fruition with the support of UConn entrepreneurship programs, will appear on the show at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24 on ABC.

From Ardent UConn Soccer Fan to Co-Captain, Jack Loura’s Work Ethic Paid Off

UConn Today – Two years before he joined the UConn Men’s Soccer Team as a walk-on player, Jack Loura ’24 (BUS) was part of the “goal patrol,” a pack of ardent fans standing behind the opposing team’s net and heckling the goalie.

Loura wrapped up his college soccer career just a few weeks ago, devoting three years to playing for the team and serving as a co-captain. Today he’s pursuing a graduate degree in financial technology at the UConn School of Business. And he’s hoping to further his soccer career with the United Soccer League, parent company of the Hartford Athletic team.

A Tradition of Generosity: Lawrence Handler ’67 (BUS) Reflects on 58 Straight Years of Giving Back to UConn

UConn Foundation – UConn has certainly seen big changes over the past 58 years, but at least one thing remains constant: Lawrence Handler ’67 (BUS) just keeps giving back. Handler made his first philanthropic gift in 1968 and as he says, “there’s been no reason to stop.”

In honor of National Philanthropy Month, Handler recently answered some questions about what inspires him to stay involved with his beloved University.
