The 2015 Ph.D. Student Speaker Series launched on Friday, October 2, 2015, as finance doctoral students welcomed Professor Kent Daniel from Columbia University.
Professor Daniel met with doctoral students, faculty, and presented his latest work at a well-attended seminar. Kent is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. When a major retailer had a security breach, and consumer information was compromised, it created a ripple effect at Stamford-based First County Bank.
First County Bank customers inundated their local branches seeking new debit cards, and many wanted replacements right away. The bank is able to produce about 1,000 new cards a day in-house, but has to contract out for bigger projects, said John Bonora, senior vice president and chief risk officer at the bank, and a 2011 graduate of UConn’s MSFRM program.Continue Reading

Offered only during spring semesters, these seminars afford students the opportunity to earn a Professional Development Certificate from the School of Business while learning from international business leaders. This certificate is available to all graduate and undergraduate UConn students, and students may earn a certificate each spring semester if they so choose. A certificate is achieved by attending three out of the four GBLSS lectures offered during the semester (students complete and submit a registration form at each of the three lectures attended). When Management Professor Rich Dino started a course that helps non-business majors write a business plan, it filled almost instantly. He scheduled two more classes, and the same thing happened.
