Professor Cohen Honored for Transportation Work

Finance and Real Estate Professor Jeffrey Cohen has received the 2017 Distinguished Member Award from the Transportation and Public Utilities Group (TPUG) of the Allied Social Sciences Associations (ASSA). The award was bestowed at the organization’s annual meeting in Philadelphia on Jan. 5.

Cohen’s scholarly work involves transportation and his recent accomplishments include investigating the business and housing impact of the new CTfastrak service; the impact of airplane noise on surrounding neighborhoods, and the economic impact of natural disasters on property values in nearby, but unscathed, neighborhoods.

The ASSA is the national association for economists, and TPUG is one of the umbrella organizations along with the American Economic Association. Notably, past awardees of the TPUG Distinguished Member Award have included two Nobel laureates in economics, William Vickrey and Daniel McFadden. This award is bestowed annually for the recipients contributions to the field and to TPUG, and is recognition of past achievements of this individual for having enjoyed a full, distinguished career.
