When she graduates from UConn next year, senior Nicole McDonald ’16 wants to use her communication-design major to make the world a more beautiful place.

But she also wants to be able to negotiate a fair contract with clients and have knowledge that will help her if she decides to start her own company.

Forbes – If former Lehman Brothers CEO Dick Fuld had taken a test that business school professors use to measure executive confidence, called Core Self-Evaluation, or CSE, he would likely have gotten a very high score, says Ciaran Heavey, a professor at the University of Dublin. Heavey is the co-author of a new paper entitled “Exuberance in the Corner Office: CEO Core Self-Evaluation and the Rise and Fall of Irish Firms, 2005-2009,” which will be presented at the annual meeting of the Academy of Management in early August.

As summer approaches and our snowy winter fades from our memories into summer’s warm contentment, we are delighted to share Marketing Department news from Spring 2015 that has been a culmination of networking, accomplishments, and research.

Networking was an important theme this spring. On March 25 our undergraduate students came out to the Benton Museum to interact with alumni, corporate partners, and faculty at our Student and Alumni Networking Event. Stewart Lander ’80, the Marketing Department 2014 Alumnus of the year and keynote speaker, stated that networking events give him a chance to interact with students and alumni have much to offer students as well. MSBAPM Class Explores Economic Impact of High-Speed Internet

The MSBAPM capstone class, together with the State of Connecticut, worked on a project this past spring to determine the economic benefits of fiber-optic based high-speed Internet in Connecticut.  The State office, along with the Connecticut Technology Council (CTC) and the CT Gig Project, are partnering with Professor Sudip Bhattacharjee in the OPIM department at the School of Business to understand the economic impact of improved broadband speeds.

Consumer Counsel Elin Swanson Katz Announces Formation of Connecticut State Broadband Office and Promotes Internet Survey as First Official Action

State of Connecticut Consumer Counsel Office – As the first official act of the State Broadband Office, Katz announced that the Office has partnered with the UConn School of Business to create two internet surveys – one for businesses, one for residents, which ask respondents about their internet speed, cost, usage, and satisfaction level with their options.
