MBAs Enhancing “The Palace – Stamford Center for the Arts” Brand

Experiential learning in action. As part of Professor Wynd Harris‘ strategic brand marketing class at the University of Connecticut-Stamford, MBA candidates received a backstage tour of The Palace Theatre prior to attending a live performance of The Temptations & The Four Tops last Wednesday evening. The experience is all part of an introduction to their semester-long team project to help enhance “The Palace – Stamford Center for the Arts” brand.

The MBA candidates will create a brand audit review and a brand-oriented marketing action program for “The Palace – Stamford Center for the Arts,” and will be meeting with The Palace management team throughout the course. Each team will present their findings and recommendations to management at the end of the semester.



Dean Elliott Welcomes Incoming Class of MBAs

On Wednesday evening, University of Connecticut School of Business alumni, faculty, and MBA students joined together at the UConn Graduate Business Learning Center for a networking & cocktail reception hosted by the School of Business. Event guests included representatives from Cigna, GE, and UTC, as well as faculty and administration from across the University.

The annual event welcoming new MBA students and alums for a networking reception featured new School of Business Dean John A. Elliott as keynote speaker. Dean Elliott was welcomed by University Provost Mun Choi. Choi briefly discussed future plans for the University, addressing the upcoming development of innovative, up-to-date infrastructure projects over the next three years. These projects include the UConn Health Center’s Bioscience Connecticut and a new Technology Park at the Storrs Campus, which will be designed to create an environment where industry partners, entrepreneurs, students and faculty can collaborate on exciting new projects that are expected to add billions of dollars to the Connecticut economy over the next few years.

In just the eighth day of his position as Dean, Elliott noted his observations of the impressive level of commitment to education and the university from President Herbst, alumni, corporate partners, and the State of Connecticut. He commended the numerous collaboration efforts taking place between University departments, and stressed the value of Learning Accelerators in supplementing business education with practical experience.

In closing, Dean Elliott provided the incoming MBA class with some advice, encouraging students to maximize their time in the MBA program by being “active learners,” seizing opportunities as they arise, and using the many resources available to them as students.


Director of UConn School of Business Part-time and Executive MBA Programs in Hartford Named

Colleen McGuire, an executive consultant with three decades of wide-ranging business experience, has been named the new director of the Part-time and Executive MBA Programs at the University of Connecticut’s School of Business Graduate Business Learning Center in downtown Hartford. UConn MBA Students Win ACG CT Cup

On April 2, 2012, UConn School of Business won the Third Annual ACG Connecticut Cup Competition.  UConn’s MBA team consisted of Vivek Goel, Isaac Park, Archit Patel, Tom Wang, and Dawei Zheng.  The other schools competing in the competition were Yale University School of Management (2nd place), Sacred Heart University College of Business (3rd place), and Quinnipiac University School of Business (4th place). Continue Reading


UConn MBAs Win First Prize in APICS Supply Chain Case Competition

UConn MBAs stood first in the APICS Northeast Region Supply Chain case competition hosted at UConn’s business school on Saturday, April 21st, 2012. Twenty one teams from across the northeast participated, including undergraduate and MBA teams from Boston University, Rutgers, Northeastern, and Bryant. Prof. Manuel Nunez mentored the UConn undergraduate team and Prof. Suresh Nair mentored our MBA teams. The winning team members were Anup Ratnakaran, Nanxin (Nick) Li, and Samir Mohanty. All-Intern Team Places Second in Case Competition at Walmart

This past summer, Vipul Chawla, a 2nd year UConn MBA candidate, interned at Walmart and had the opportunity to participate in a case competition that was conducted across the Walmart corporate office.  The business case competition was hosted by the New Professionals Advisory Council, and is the first one to ever take place. Continue Reading


MBA Students Interned at Walmart

This past summer, two of UConn’s MBA students had the opportunity to intern at Walmart. Seniors, Vipul Chawla and Roxie Sieu, spent their summer at the Walmart headquarters. They had an amazing learning experience working with Bill Simon, President and CEO of Walmart.

2011 ACFE Educator of the Year Award Recipient

The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (AFCE) is proud to recognize Dr. Richard Hurley with the 2011 ACFE Educator of the Year Award for his outstanding contributions in fraud examination and curriculum development.

Dr. Hurley developed and teaches an MBA course in “Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination” at the University of Connecticut at Stamford. He is currently developing a course in “Accounting and Securities Fraud.” He authored the “FraudEDge” column from 2008–2010 and is currently the co-author of the “Global Fraud Focus” column.
