CEO Evolution Offers a View from the Top
Fairfield County Business Journal – For the second consecutive year, accounting firm Citrin Cooperman gathered a panel of CEOs to UConn Stamford’s General Re Auditorium — filling it again with an audience of 200 — for a give-and-take with Mark Fagan, managing partner at the firm.
The questions were designed to plumb the CEOs’ successes and harvest their anecdotes. The CEOs responded with unguarded responses that ran from whimsy — “I always wanted to be a ballerina” — to horror: “When you hit the water at 74 mph it’s like hitting cement.”

UConn Today – Gun manufacturer Colt Defense LLC has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, a process that will allow for an accelerated sale of Colt’s business operations in the U.S. and Canada. The Hartford, Conn.-based manufacturer, which created the iconic revolver whose bullets were loaded into a revolving cylinder that became known as “the gun that won the West,” has been a major producer of firearms since the early 1800s. How did Colt get to this point and what does the future hold? UConn Today asked economic historian Fred Carstensen, a professor of finance and economics in the School of Business, and director of the Connecticut Center for Economic Analysis.

West Hartford News – Professor Jose Cruz, of West Hartford, Conn., was one of eight outstanding faculty members honored at a recent ceremony by the University of Connecticut School of Business. Cruz, of the department of operations and information management, won the Faculty Service Award.

Marketing Profs – Consumers are sensitive to the text size of discounted prices on price tags and product advertisements, according to researchers Keith Coulter and Robin Coulter from Clark University and the University of Connecticut, respectively. They found that consumers perceive price to be significantly lower when the reduced price is printed in a smaller font than that of the original price.
UConn’s Biz School Bursting at Seams
Hartford Business Journal – UConn is two years away from relocating its West Hartford campus to Hartford, yet an expansion of its nascent downtown campus already has begun. UConn last week bought the office building at 38 Prospect St. that is home to JCJ Architecture for $3.9 million.

UConn Launches Program to Help Students, Faculty Transform Ideas for Technology into Commercialized Products
New Haven Register – The University of Connecticut is launching a program to help students and faculty transform ideas for technology into commercialized products. The school kicked of its Accelerate UConn program with a ceremony Tuesday in Storrs. The program, which builds upon UConn’s existing technology transfer, incubation and commercialization infrastructure, is being funded by a three-year, $300,000 grant by the national science foundation.
