Fall 2017 Research eNewsletter

Hello to friends and colleagues across the country and around the world!

The beginning of a new academic year is filled with energy and excitement, both for our students and our faculty. This year that momentum is augmented by a team of new faculty members who bring both extensive research accomplishments and a love of teaching to UConn.

We are excited to welcome the following tenure-track faculty:

  • Frank Murphy, assistant professor of accounting, worked at Deloitte as a manager of international tax services. He is a UConn alumnus who also earned his Ph.D. at the University of Arizona. His research interests include corporate taxation, tax avoidance and international taxation.
  • Sandra Corredor, assistant professor of management, earned a Ph.D. in strategy and entrepreneurship from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has won several academic awards for her work and is passionate about exploring connections between innovation and corporate and international strategies.
  • Kelly Herd, assistant professor of marketing, joins us from Indiana University. Prior to completing her Ph.D., she worked on marketing campaigns for clients including Toshiba, Disney, NBC and Pepsi. Her recent research breaks new ground about the importance of emotion in new product development.
  • Ugochukwu “Ugo” Etudo, assistant professor of operations and information management, won a $50,000 award from Virginia Commonwealth University, where he earned his doctorate, for his bold, groundbreaking terror propaganda analytics work. His research is featured in this issue of our newsletter.
  • Niam Yaraghi, assistant professor of operations and information management, joins UConn after completing a fellowship at the Brookings Institute. His work has been published in many research journals. He has received more than $400,000 in research grants. In addition, he is also a prolific author of op-ed articles and a much-sought after subject matter expert by the media. His primary interest centers around healthcare information technology.
