UConn Finance Majors Take CFA Trophy

A team of five UConn undergraduate finance majors is celebrating after winning the 2017 CFA Society Hartford Research Challenge earlier this semester.

The team included: Taylor VanFleet ’18, Sean Elliott ’18, Frank Bazzano ’18, Austin Custodio ’18 and Michael Morabito ’18. The team’s faculty advisor is Chris Wilkos and industry mentor is Leslie White.

The Research Challenge is an investment competition among university students at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Students are asked to conduct an equity analysis of a public company, specified by the CFA Society Hartford. Each team prepares a written analysis and finalists give a 10-minute presentation for a panel of judges comprising industry professionals. This year’s target company was People’s United Financial Inc.

After beating eight other teams—including teams from Bryant University, Providence College, Trinity College, University of New Haven and Southern Connecticut State University—the UConn champs became eligible to participate in a championship event in Seattle.
