UConn Alumni– The UConn Foundation has been awarded a $40,000 grant from Newman’s Own Foundation, the independent foundation created by the late actor and philanthropist, Paul Newman.
The funds will support the UConn School of Business’ Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities, a program offering cutting-edge, experiential training in entrepreneurship and small business management for post-9/11 veterans with disabilities resulting from their service to the country.
A beloved accounting professor who never regretted trading in the bustle of New York City for the tranquility of Storrs, will be honored through a new scholarship that bears his name.
Francis E. Ryan joined the faculty at the School of Business in 1949, founding and leading the accounting department for more than 20 years. His former students recalled that he taught them not only accounting, but also about hard work, dedication and honesty. Continue Reading

Scholarship Fund to Help Students from Underrepresented Backgrounds Attend School of Business
John Kim ’87 MBA, a Korean immigrant who earned an MBA from the UConn School of Business and is now the President of New York Life Insurance Co., and his wife Diane have pledged $1 million to a scholarship fund to help underrepresented students from Hartford earn a UConn business degree.

Hartford Courant – John Kim hasn’t forgotten the generosity that helped bring him to the United States from South Korea decades ago. And he’s returning it in a big way.
Kim, president of New York Life Insurance Co., along with his wife Diane, have donated $1 million to help students from Hartford attend UConn School of Business, where he received his master’s degree in business administration nearly 30 years ago.
UConn Foundation – Donors Peter ’55 (BUS) and Re’ Telep are committed to supporting UConn Stamford students today – and in the future.
In 2009, the couple established the Telep Family Scholarship to support UConn Stamford students. Recently, the two decided to ensure the scholarship’s longevity by creating an endowed scholarship through their estate plans. For the Teleps, this scholarship is an opportunity to give back and help others move ahead in the world.

Finance Chief, Philanthropist, Innovator Denis J. Nayden is a Husky Through-and-Through
A year after Denis J. Nayden ’76, ’77 MBA, graduated from UConn, he was visiting his parents in the Annapolis, Md.,-area, and attended a function at the U.S. Naval Academy.
“My father introduced me to the commandant and said, ‘This is my son, Denis, and he just graduated from UConn,'” Nayden recalled. Apparently, the commandant was only familiar with the other Yukon.
