Internship Success Story: Jacob Bond

Jacob Bond is a senior marketing major who completed an internship with Indeed.com, a job search engine that connects employers with job seekers. Employers can post their job listings on Indeed.com and job seekers can filter through all jobs to see which ones they want to apply to! It’s frequently called “Google for jobs.”

Throughout the summer, Jacob contributed to multiple aspects of the company. First, he worked with the small business client services team where he assisted clients with problems ranging from technical questions to refund requests. Next, he learned about the sales role by collaborating with the client development team. He worked directly with small business owners to optimize their job postings, budget strategies, and to increase quality job applicants. After getting a taste of both the small business client services team and the client development team, Jacob discovered the big difference between the real world and the classroom: collaboration with others. He exclaimed, “Students complain about working on group projects, but in the real world, you do almost everything in teams.” Working with other interns and employees was an integral part of his internship.

Lastly, Jacob’s most memorable moment at Indeed.com was the entire intern team executing a summer-long project to increase client retention. The twenty-person intern team presented their idea to the entire department, a global audience of around 500 employees. Jacob and the other interns were able to show off all their hard work to senior leadership. He said it made class presentations seem really easy in comparison. Overall, Jacob learned valuable and beneficial skills from an amazing experience at Indeed.com.

Jacob’s advice to others: “I would recommend networking and asking questions whenever you get the opportunity! Also, don’t be afraid to take on opportunities just because they seem too challenging.”
