Vishal Baloria
Associate Professor
Accounting
Vishal Baloria is currently an Associate Professor of Accounting at the University of Connecticut. Using theoretical insights from political economy and personnel economics, Vishal’s research examines settings in which firm behavior may have been predictably altered in response to economic, legal, and political institutions. His current research projects focus on four interrelated actors: media, politicians, regulators, and workers. His research appears in leading management journals, including Contemporary Accounting Research, Harvard Business Review, Journal of Financial Economics, Management Science, and The Accounting Review. Vishal currently serves both as an Ad Hoc Editor and as a editorial board member at Contemporary Accounting Research.
Vishal’s research has been presented at the Public Company Accounting Standard Board (PCAOB), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as well as the Certified Financial Planning (CFP) Board and been cited in several media outlets, including the Boston Globe, Forbes, and the New York Times. Vishal was previously on faculty at Boston College and the University of Alberta, where he was named a Teaching All-Star (Boston College) and was a recipient of the CPA Education Foundation Teaching award (University of Alberta). Vishal received a PhD from the University of Waterloo, an MBA from McMaster University, and a BBA from the University of Toronto. Prior to embarking on an academic career, he worked in public accounting as a CPA (Canada). He currently teaches financial literacy to undergraduate students from across the university who are seeking to embark on endeavors relating to entrepreneurship, professional athletics, as well as public and private sector professional careers. Vishal has previously taught managerial accounting at the undergraduate and Executive MBA level, and a PhD seminar on financial economics research.
