Steinar Ryen has spent his career in financial services companies across the United States, Australia and Europe, developing strategy and driving execution of strategic initiatives.

Steinar is the President of Sherwood Capital and Consulting LLC, a private investment firm, and is currently an instructor at Eastern Connecticut State University.  At UCONN, he teaches courses focused on strategy and planning.

Recently, he has had responsibility for managing strategic investments for the Personal Lines Division of the Hartford, a Fortune 200 company located in Hartford, Connecticut.  Steinar joined the Hartford in 2006 and held a range of executive roles at the company’s Property & Casualty businesses.  His work at the company has resulted in several patent applications, and he is a recipient of the Hartford’s prestigious Chairman’s Award.

Prior to joining the Hartford, Steinar served financial services clients as a management consultant with McKinsey & Company and Aston Associates.  Spanning a decade as a consultant, he advised banks and insurance clients on topics ranging from strategy development, sales and marketing, financial management and KPI development, business development and driving business process redesign.

Steinar holds an MBA from Yale School of Management and a Bachelor’s degree from Pacific Lutheran University.  He also holds a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation and a secondary (7-12) teacher certification in Business Education. He has published a range of articles in industry publications such as American Banker and Retail Banker international.
