Biography
Moustapha Diaby is Associate Professor of Production and Operations Management in the School of Business at the University of Connecticut.
His research centers on mathematical programming and the modeling and analysis of manufacturing, logistics, and supply-chain systems. He has published widely in these areas in leading journals, including Management Science, Operations Research, European Journal of Operational Research, International Journal of Production Research, International Journal of Production Economics, Journal of the Operational Research Society, and others. A major focus of his recent work is the development of polynomial-sized linear programming formulations for hard combinatorial optimization problems (notably the traveling salesman problem, the quadratic assignment problem, and related problems). This line of research is presented in the co-authored book Advances in Combinatorial Optimization: Polynomial-sized Linear Programs for the Traveling Salesman and Other Hard Combinatorial Optimization Problems (World Scientific, 2016) and in subsequent journal articles, including a 2026 contribution in Logistics (https://doi.org/10.3390/logistics10030063) on a ternary minimum-cost network-flow LP model of the assignment polytope.
Professor Diaby has designed and taught a broad range of Ph.D., MBA/MS, and undergraduate courses in large-scale optimization, mathematical programming, production and operations management, facilities design, inventory and distribution, and related topics, and has led multiple curriculum development initiatives. He is a frequent reviewer for major journals and funding agencies (NSF, NSERC), serves/has served as Guest Editor for special issues (including in Logistics and the International Journal of Mathematics in Operational Research), and holds/has held editorial board and professional service roles with INFORMS/ORSA and other societies.
