Biography
Suzanne Cansler joined the University of Connecticut School of Business in August 2015 as an Instructor-in-Residence in the Department of Accounting. Her teaching focuses on Principles of Financial Accounting for undergraduate and Honors students. She has also taught Governmental Accounting and Global Financial Reporting in UConn’s Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) program.
Suzanne is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Master of Science in Accounting from the University at Albany, State University of New York, and bachelor’s degrees in Finance and French from the University of Colorado. She currently serves as a peer reviewer for The Journal of Government Financial Management.
Prior to joining UConn, Suzanne served as Director of Accounting Programs at the University at Albany and was a lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Law for more than 15 years, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting and auditing.
From 2012 to 2014, Suzanne taught graduate and undergraduate courses at Maastricht University and Maastricht School of Management in the Netherlands, gaining valuable international teaching experience. Earlier, she served as Comptroller for the Town of Bethlehem, New York, and as Chief Fiscal Officer for the Bethlehem Industrial Development Agency (BIDA).
Suzanne’s professional accounting experience includes consulting and advisory work for the Professional Development Program of the SUNY Research Foundation, Becker CPA Review, the New York State Dormitory Authority, Lavelle & Finn, LLP, PricewaterhouseCoopers (formerly Coopers & Lybrand), and the Internal Revenue Service.
In recognition of her excellence in teaching, Suzanne received the UConn School of Business Undergraduate Teaching Award in 2021. Earlier in her career, she was honored with the Dean W. Warren Hayes Memorial Award for Outstanding Graduate Teaching from the University at Albany in 2006.
Suzanne is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor society for business students and scholars, as well as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Association of Government Accountants (AGA).
