Tunxis among group receiving $237K for bioscience, health research

Tunxis Community College is among a group of higher education partners being awarded $237,069 to provide students with research opportunities in bioscience and health-related fields.

The Farmington-based school is among a group of seven Connecticut higher education partners involved in the three-year Partnership in Innovation and Education grant program, which is led by UConn and also received support from CTNext and Connecticut Innovations.

Tunxis students will participate in a 10-week research fellowship program from May 29 to Aug. 3, working with faculty mentors at host research laboratories. Research projects will be centered on basic, translational and commercializable research that could be used in future therapies, devices, diagnostics or services.

Tunxis said the program provide hands-on, laboratory research opportunities that aren’t common for community college students.
