GBA ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

PRESIDENT

The president is responsible for the overall functioning of the GBA. The individual will work closely with the VPs to draw up plans for the academic year. The position also doubles as the student’s representative to the administration. There will be regular meetings with the MBA office and the Dean’s office to discuss existing and new initiatives. You will also be responsible to interact with the various companies that come on campus.

Time commitment per month: 8-10 hours

 

VP FINANCE

The Vice President of Finance is responsible for the budgeting and cash management of all GBA activities.  The individual will prepare an annual budget based on discussions with other GBA officers and members and create periodic income statements to track revenues, expenses, and projected cash flows.  The individual is also responsible for managing the GBA checking account and investing excess funds during the summer and fall semester.  The VP of Finance is required to actively participate in the golf tournament meetings, as this is the primary source of GBA funds.

Time commitment per month: 8-10 hours

 

VP PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Vice President of professional is the essential link between recruiters and the students. The individuals will work closely with various firms and arrange for presentations and information sessions and plan presentations to address soft skills. The individuals will utilize their contacts for the golf tournament. They will co-ordinate with the GBA and the MBA clubs to bring speakers to events.

Time commitment per month: 8-10 hours

 

VP COMMUNICATIONS

The Vice President of communications is the web master for the GBA website. The individual will function as the editor for the GBA Newsletter. You will be responsible for the GBA mail-box and send out regular communication about the events and activities. The individual is responsible for the meeting minutes, designing surveys and is required to co-ordinate the business cards for the new students. The golf tournament is another major responsibility.

Time commitment per month: 8-10 hours

 

VP SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

The Vice President of social activities will work closely with the GBA team, to oversee the regular happy hours. You will be required to negotiate a contract with a facility to host the happy hours. You will plan events like paintball (fall) and whirlyball (spring) and work with the vendors on the contracts. You will essentially gauge the pulse and plan activities around it. You will work with the VP of finance on budgeting for these events.

Time commitment per month: 8-10 hours

 

STRATEGIC MARKETING COMMITTEE

The Strategic Marketing committee is involved with increase brand awareness of the UConn MBA program. Some of the activities that the SMC undertakes are:

  • Organize MBA open house events at Storrs - one in the fall and one in the spring.
  • Send personal notes to students who inquire about the MBA program.
  • Conduct research using focus groups of incoming MBA students to determine if changes need to be made to improve the experience of the application and admission process.
  • Prepare and send questionnaires to students who were admitted and did not accept to the UConn MBA program in an effort to understand their reasons so that we can make improvements to attract more students.
  • Work with the admissions and marketing office to help out with special events and requirements that arise.
  • Explore other ways of increasing the UConn MBA brand awareness to the local community and employers.

 

 

COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE

The community service chair will oversee the working of the CSC. The activities include supporting the neighboring non-profit organizations in their altruistic endeavors by working closely with them on various organizational projects, providing financial aid and time commitments. The CSC projects serve as ideal venues for professionals and students to work side by side, learning about each other and about the company while working together to benefit charitable ventures. 

Some of the past and ongoing activities of the CSC include – 

  • Habitat for Humanity  
  • Toys for Tots Drive with the US Marine Corps
  • American Cancer Society Relay for Life
