PAST EVENTS:
"Aetna Tour and Information Session"
Date: Friday, January 26, 2007
The University of Connecticut MBA Marketing Club and the Graduate Business Association teamed up with Aetna’s Marketing Departments for a two hour information session.
With a wide array of backgrounds, four executives met with 21 students with an interest in marketing. First year MBA student, Braxton Blalock, said, “The Aetna event offered the opportunity to hear from different people in the Marketing field. Not only was I surprised to learn about the different backgrounds of each speaker (ranging from a chemist to a psychologist), but I was able to see how these people were able to work as a team and use their various backgrounds to attain a common goal.” Rick O’Connor was the highlight with his humor and down to earth personality. He took time to answer specific questions that students had about Consumer Marketing. O’Connor had a background in psychology before moving to the marketing industry. He says that there is little difference between the two areas as the goal of both industries is to figure out what people are thinking and what causes them to do what they do. MBA Marketing Club member, Traci Russo, says, “It was a wonderful opportunity to talk with professionals in an area where I am interested. The most encouraging thing for me was to hear about the paths each person took to get to their current position, and the diverse background each person had.”
This event was a great opportunity for students to be on-site, learn more in-depth about the Aetna culture and networking opportunities. The purpose was to expose students to the marketing activities that transpire on a day to day basis and prove that the healthcare insurance industry is not monotonous.
