Experiential Learning
Beyond receiving a thorough grounding in business education, our students capture many opportunities for experiential learning by working on solutions to real-time challenges with our corporate partners.

Integration Project: The capstone of first-year MBA studies, this is a live consulting project that integrates classroom knowledge with pre-program work experience. Past corporate partners include General Electric, Xerox Engineering, The Hartford Insurance Group, United Technologies, Pitney Bowes and WellPoint.

edgelab: A strategic alliance between GE and the UConn School of Business, edgelab is a unique laboratory that gives students the opportunity to integrate and build upon their academic knowledge and develop innovative solutions to real-time, complex, business problems. Participants collaborate directly with GE executives and work hands-on with faculty to generate team-based solutions that provide educational value to students and business value to GE. Project areas include new product introductions, stochastic/financial modeling, emerging technologies research, process improvement, risk management, and business development.

Student Managed Fund (SMF): Established in February 2000, the SMF gives UConn MBA & Undergraduate students hands-on experience managing $2 million in real money to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Students use their intensive classroom training in stock market theory to help them research and analyze stocks. At fund meetings they plan strategies for each stock. The students also learn about the accounting and reporting necessary for professional fund management.

Financial Accelerator: This facility uses the latest in financial technologies and real-time databases to address insurance and financial challenges occurring in the marketplace. Working alongside financial executives and faculty, MBA & Undergraduate students have the opportunity to investigate alternative markets and trader support tools, study insider trading identification and control, review alternative auction market mechanisms, design financial programs and develop products that enhance competitive advantage, evaluate emerging technologies, and create specialized business processes that increase efficiency, reduce costs, and/or increase revenues.

Innovation Accelerator (IA): The IA is one of the primary outreach initiatives of the Connecticut Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CCEI) at the School of Business. The IA assists entrepreneurial ventures in addressing myriad challenges associated with the identification and capture of business opportunities through interdisciplinary project teams of students that innovatively solve complex business issues for technology-based entrepreneurial ventures under the guidance of UConn faculty, with the involvement of the founders of the participating venture. The teams help move innovation forward and the client venture closer to market by engaging in consulting projects such as performing comprehensive market analyses and associated market-entry strategies, developing strategic roadmaps and sustainable business models, fleshing-out business plans, evaluating the market feasibility of emerging technologies, and constructing customer relationship strategies.
