Her research is in three major areas: a) Work motivation, where she conducted numerous studies on goal-setting – feedback, goal commitment, and participation in goal-setting. Her 1988 JAP Monograph won the Academy of Management Best Paper Award and is unique in its approach, having research antagonists working together towards resolving a scientific dispute. b) Cross - cultural organizational behavior – she co-authored two books (with P.C. Earley) and co-edited two additional books, and co-authored the 2007 Annual Psychological Review paper on Culture and Organizational Behavior. She pioneered in introducing cross-cultural research into Organizational Behavior. c) Innovation in Organizations - Erez studies the paradox of innovation - how competing individual characteristics, such as, creativity and attention to detail, and competing cultural characteristics, such as innovation, quality and efficiency, co-exist to enhance innovation. Erez is the founder of the Knowledge Center for Innovation, supported by the Ministry of Science, aiming to enhance research and practice of innovation mainly in Small and Medium Size Enterprises that are still low on innovation. Erez published more than eighty articles and book chapters written on Innovation, cross-cultural organizational behavior and work motivation. A symposium she organized at the Academy of Management Meeting 2003 titled: "Innovation in Organizations - Individual, Team, Organizational, and National Factors", won The Most Innovative Session Award. She received numerous research grants on Innovation by: The Volkswagen Foundation; The Kauffman Foundation (together with the U. of MD, USA); The Gordon Foundation; Hong Kong RGC Competitive Earmarked Research Grant. She supervised 10 doctoral and master dissertations on Innovation, and overall more than than 80 theses and doctoral dissertations. She frequently lectures on innovation in international conferences and university seminars. Erez is the former Editor of: Applied Psychology: An International Review (1997-2003), and the Past President of Division-1 of Organizational Psychology, IAAP. Erez is Fellow of SIOP; Fellow of APA; Fellow of The Academy of Management (AOM) and Fellow of the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP).
