Full-Time MBA Program Application & Procedures for International Applicants

In addition to your online application and application fee you will need to provide official transcripts, an official GMAT test score, an official TOEFL test score, a current resume, a statement of purpose, and two letters of recommendation.

DEADLINE
We are no longer considering applications for Fall 2008. International full-time MBA candidates should consider applying for Fall 2009 by January 31, 2009. The primary reason for early application is that we anticipate the policies and procedures surrounding issuance of student visas will be stricter and more time-consuming than in the past. Also, on-campus housing is limited. Therefore, those who apply and are accepted earlier will have a stronger chance of obtaining on-campus housing. If you are already in the United States, please submit a copy of your current I-20 or IAP-66.

REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS
Please note: The admissions committee cannot review an application until all of the following required materials have been received.

ONLINE APPLICATION AND APPLICATION FEE
Our new online application for Fall 2009 will be available in September 2008.

A non-refundable application fee of $55.00 must be submitted along with the application and must be paid with a major credit card - Visa, MasterCard or Discover. There are no waivers, deferments, or refunds of application fees.

GRADUATE MANAGEMENT ADMISSION TEST (GMAT)
All applicants to the UConn full-time MBA program are required to take the GMAT test and have an official score sent to the full-time MBA program.

A GRE score is not acceptable.

Make sure your GMAT score reports are properly coded to the University of Connecticut Full-Time MBA Program, Storrs. Our code is CV2C037.

It takes approximately one to three weeks to receive official scores from Pearson VUE, the administrator of the GMAT test. Please note that a GMAT test score is valid for five years, and the admissions committee will consider your highest score if you have taken the test more than once.

For more information about the GMAT test and how to register, please visit www.mba.com.

TOEFL
International applicants must submit an official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score. Please visit www.TOEFL.org for test and registration information.

Foreign applications will not be evaluated without official TOEFL scores. (Exceptions to the TOEFL requirement are sometimes made in cases where English is the applicant’s native language or for those who went to universities or colleges where English was the language in which the majority of courses were taught).

The institution code for the UConn MBA Program is 3915. The department code is 02, which is for graduate schools of management.

A TOEFL test score is valid for two years. Please note that it takes approximately three weeks to receive your official TOEFL score from ETS.

RESUME AND STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Each applicant to the full-time MBA program must submit their resume and a statement purpose as part of the application process.

Your resume should reflect your full-time work experience, as well as any relevant part-time work experience. Please also indicate the dates you were at each position, for instance January 2004 – May 2007.

Your statement of purpose is an important aspect of the admissions process. Please respond fully yet concisely to the following question:

Please write a one to two page essay in which you describe your background and qualifications and why you wish to undertake a MBA degree in your intended concentration. As part of this essay, describe how the MBA program fits with your long-term career interests and objectives. Please also attach a brief summary of your academic and professional honors and activities.

The resume and statement of purpose may either be e-mailed to UConnMBA@business.uconn.edu or mailed to our office.

OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS
We wish to stress the importance of following all instructions, since unofficial or incomplete transcripts and the failure to submit all required credentials have been a major cause of delay in processing applications. Please be aware that it takes some institutions a long time to issue transcripts. A reasonable margin would be to allow at least one month.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that all official transcripts from Bachelor’s degree granting institutions and beyond are sent to the full-time MBA program office. Official transcripts are issued by the college or university attended and bear the impressed or colored seal of that institution. Unofficial transcripts, including copies, are not acceptable.

For international applicants, official transcripts must be issued in their original language and accompanied by an English translation. There should also be a clear explanation in English of the institution’s program requirements and grading system. For students in countries where the transcript does not indicate the degree received, an official degree diploma attested by a university official must also be submitted in the original language and accompanied by an English translation.

Applicants who register for additional courses during the time when the application is being considered should notify the MBA Office so that their application file can be updated. Transcripts become the property of the university.

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
MBA applicants should have two letters of recommendation sent by current or former employers. Academic references are acceptable only if employer references are not possible. MBA applicants who are unable to supply either employer or academic references may be permitted, in some circumstances, to provide personal references.

Letters should be written on company letterhead or accompanied by a business card. They should indicate your professional skills and character and how an MBA degree program can benefit you.

It is your responsibility to ask individuals to write these letters on your behalf. Letters should be mailed to the MBA program office. Your recommenders can mail them to us directly or give them to you to forward to us. However, in this instance, the letter should be in a sealed envelope with the recommender’s signature on the back seal.

Requests for letters of recommendation sometimes encounter unexpected delays. It would be advisable for you to follow up to determine whether your recommendations have been written and submitted.

We consider it extremely inappropriate for you to draft or write your own letter of recommendation. If your recommender asks you to do so, we suggest you choose another recommender.

In the application, you are asked if you wish to waive your right to inspect your letters of recommendation. Please read and indicate your decision with regard to the following statement:

I understand that The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 provides me with a right of access to my recommendations, and that no school or person can require me to waive this right. If I waive this right of access to my letters of recommendation, then the University of Connecticut School of Business will consider them confidential and they will not be available to me.

I also understand that the Admissions Committee may contact my recommenders for clarification or additional information.

IDENTIFICATION NUMBER
Your Social Security Number will be used as your initial identification number until you are assigned a university identification number.

International applicants who do not have a U.S. Social Security Number will be assigned a temporary university identification number (this temporary number is NOT an official Social Security Number).
