Offered only during spring semesters, these
seminars afford students the opportunity to earn a Professional
Development Certificate from the School of Business while
learning from international business leaders. It is a great
resume builder and will enhance the understanding of the global
economy. This certificate is available to all graduate and
undergraduate UConn students. It is achieved by attending 3 out
of 4 GBLSS lectures offered during the spring semester. You must
fill out and submit the registration form at each lecture,
attending three lectures during the same spring semester.
Students may earn a certificate every spring semester.

Brett Silvers, the Founder and President of WorldBusiness Capital, Inc., a
commercial finance company specializing in lending to small and midsize
businesses to support international trade and investments using programs of the
Overseas Private Investment Corporation (“OPIC”), Export-Import Bank of the
United States (“Ex-Im Bank”), and other U.S. government agencies
JT Pedrotty, the Managing Director of the Asia-Pacific division of Reflexit has
received many accolades including the“2002 Governor’s Award for Exporting,” from
the U.S. Dept of Commerce, and the “International Business Leader of the Year
Award” from the Greater Hartford Chamber of Commerce in 1996.
Peter M. Gioia is vice president and economist for the Connecticut Business and
Industry Association (CBIA), the state's largest business organization with
about 10,000 member companies. Gioia was Connecticut Team Captain for USA*NAFTA.
He is a past president and member of the Hartford Area Business Economists, a
member of the National Association for Business Economics, and a board member of
the MetroHartford Alliance’s Economic Development Council and a past board
member of the New England Economic Project.
Robert Flynn is Vice President, Strategic Policy Development at St. Paul
Travelers, where he enhances the corporate marketplace position through the
analysis and dissemination of public policy. Mr. Flynn works extensively with
internal leaders and external stakeholders to affect change that enhances
corporate strategy, reputation, and shareholder returns. Mr. Flynn served as the
founding Executive Director of the Connecticut Insurance and Financial Services
Cluster, a cooperative corporate venture designed to advance the industry
throughout the State of Connecticut.
