The Management 289 Internship Program at the UConn School of Business places students in entrepreneurial or management-driven summer internships, providing students with unique experiential learning opportunities and host companies with access to a core body of knowledge and skill set that will help in the completion of special projects important to the firm.
The Program was developed by Management Professor Richard N. Dino to challenge students' intellect, continuously improve their thought processes and better themselves and the communities in which they live. Students may participate in one of two tracts within Management 289: The Entrepreneurship Tract or the Management Tract.
THE MANAGEMENT TRACT (for MGMT Majors and Business Honors Students)
- Interns majoring in business and entering their senior year of undergraduate study who have found an internship in a corporate management program setting are accepted and work for a 10-week period from May - July.
- Interns establish compensation with their host organization and are required to work full-time on special projects designed by the host company and approved by the Internship administrators.
- Interns will be awarded six Management course credits upon successful completion of the 10-week internship period and submission of two final papers:
Assignment #1 - the "Assessment" Report: A 20-page assessment paper that focuses on the internship (company background, products, services, industry, internship assignments, internship accomplishments, and future recommendations).
Assignment #2 - the "Interview" Narrative: A 20-page paper based on four separate interviews conducted with executives within the organization. Interviews must focus on leadership, ethics, strategic planning, and execution.
- Registration for MGMT 289 is required. All interns must abide by Host Company and University of Connecticut Rules, Regulations and Code of Ethics.
- Grading for the "Management Tract" is on a "Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory" basis.
