Second Year

In the second year students focus their studies in any two of the five concentrations.

Concentrations enable MBA candidates to explore an area of business in greater depth to prepare for specific careers. By March of their first year, full-time MBA students are required to choose two concentrations, a primary and a secondary, from the five that have been designed specifically for the Storrs program. Students are required to take four specific courses in their primary concentration and three courses in their secondary concentration. The concentrations are:

  • Finance

  • Health Care Management & Insurance Studies

  • Venture Consulting

  • Marketing Intelligence

  • Operations & Information Management

  • Real Estate

In addition to the established concentrations, a student may petition to design an individualized secondary concentration. This individualized concentration, in combination with a chosen primary concentration, must create a specific skill set which enhances the student's career objectives. This petition must be approved by the MBA Program Director and the department head of the student's primary concentration.
