Mark E. Freitas
Class of 1981
Mark Freitas was recruited by UConn for ice hockey in 1977 and went on to letter in the sport. In 1981, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University’s School of Business Administration. After graduation, Mark joined American International Group (AIG) as an Underwriter in Financial Institutions Insurance and was promoted to Manager of Financial Institution Products. Mr. Freitas is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Frank Crystal & Co., Inc. headquartered in the heart of Wall Street’s Financial District with offices nationwide. Frank Crystal & Co. is the 18th largest insurance brokerage firm in the U.S. while ranking in the top 5% of brokerage firms worldwide. Mark joined Frank Crystal & Co., Inc. as an Account Executive in 1985, specializing in Financial Institutions Insurance and he subsequently formalized the Firm’s Financial Services Unit. During his tenure at Frank Crystal, Mark has developed and implemented an array of insurance products for the financial community. Mark became the Company’s youngest Senior Vice President and then Managing Director, and in 1999 he was named C.O.O. As a resident of Greenwich, Connecticut, Mark is continuously involved in local athletic and civic organizations. Mark remains active with UConn and is a lifetime member of the Alumni Association. A major benefactor to the University, Mark’s support reflects his love of athletics and business, including the newly rebuilt Athletic Ice Arena, and an endowed scholarship to encourage students pursuing a career in business. He currently serves on the School of Business Building Campaign Committee.
