His research focuses on advertising effectiveness, ethnic marketing, source effects, and categorization. Additionally, Ioannis is interested in the methodological areas of research synthesis (meta-analysis), and implicit measurement techniques, especially the Implicit Association Test (IAT), and priming. The four studies which constitute his dissertation focus primarily on ethnic marketing. His first essay is a meta-analytic review of extant findings related to racial similarity effects in advertising. Essay two reports the findings of two studies designed to investigate the influence of color preference, racial preference, and strength of racial identification on participants’ advertising evaluations, when exposed to ads featuring same-race (vs. different-race) spokespersons. Essay three is an experimental investigation of the Bradley effect, which dominated political news coverage prior to the 2008 presidential elections. In this study, Ioannis investigates the validity of explicit measurement techniques such as voter polls, commonly used in political science research.
