Tuition and Costs
The current 2008-2009 tuition and fees for the full-time MBA program at Storrs for the academic year (two semesters) are estimated at $10,594 for Connecticut residents and $24,814 for non-residents. Housing and living costs vary, but are approximately $5,788 for graduate resident housing and $4,210 for meals. Preference will be given to early applicants for graduate housing. Additional costs including required health insurance, textbooks, mobile computer, laundry and incidentals bring the total yearly cost of attending the MBA program to approximately $27,000 for Connecticut residents and $41,000 for non-residents.
Financial Aid/Scholarships
Although the cost of a UConn MBA is reasonable, candidates often need financial assistance. Most financial aid is awarded on the basis of established need, primarily determined through an analysis of an applicant's Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FAFSA forms may be obtained from any high school or college/university financial aid office. You may also contact the University of Connecticut's Financial Aid Office at (860) 486-2819 or at their web site (www.financialaid.uconn.edu) for further information. In order to receive financial aid in a timely basis, it is imperative that you file your application for financial aid as soon after January 1 as possible. Federal regulations define an "Independent Student" for financial aid purposes as "a graduate or professional student." All MBA candidates now qualify for "Independent Student" status in the determination of need-based financial aid. Candidates without sufficient financial resources may be able to attend our program by applying for and obtaining the necessary financial aid.
Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
Out-of-state candidates who have demonstrated a high likelihood of success can also benefit from the Tuition Assistance Program. In this program, out-of-state students will receive the benefit of paying in-state tuition fees. There are a limited number of these awards, so work experience and GMAT scores are important determinants.
Graduate Assistantships
Each year, a small number of merit-based Graduate Assistantships (GA’s) are awarded to outstanding MBA students with the strongest combination of work experience, GMAT scores, and grade point averages. The average statistics of our GA’s are 8.3 years of full-time work experience, 666 GMAT score, and a 3.4 grade point average. These awards offer a full tuition waiver, an annual stipend, and medical/dental insurance.
GAs work ten hours a week per semester in a research or administrative capacity for a corporate partner or for a School of Business department. The assistantship is contingent on students maintaining a minimum 3.0 grade point average and performing satisfactorily in their assigned position.
Due to the comprehensive benefits of the GA, there is great demand for these awards. Because there are a limited number of GAs available, competition is very intense. Only the most qualified candidates are eligible for these awards. Preference will be given to early applicants (before April 1) for Graduate Assistantships.
Top MBA candidates take note: Graduate Assistantships are awarded based on demonstrated excellence prior to attending the program. The UConn MBA program is actively working to ease the financial burden on the most promising incoming students.
Paid Summer Internships
All candidates are required to participate in a paid summer internship between the first and second years of the program. The University of Connecticut is located in the middle of the corporate corridor that connects New York City and Boston. Many major corporations have headquarters within a three-hour drive of our campus. This proximity to one of the largest concentrations of major corporations in the world greatly facilitates the searches by our candidates for internships or practical training.
