REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS

  • Official transcripts: Request an official transcript from each college/university you attended.

    • Ask that the transcript be sent to UConn in a sealed envelope.

Official transcripts are issued by the college or university attended and bear the impressed or colored seal of that institution. If you attended the University of Connecticut, you do not need to request a copy -- we can obtain one directly on your behalf.

Important: Your application will not be considered until all official transcripts are received. If you register for additional courses during the time when your application is being considered, you should notify the Graduate School so that your file can be updated. Transcripts become the property of the University.

Note: The most common reason for delayed consideration of graduate school applications is missing or unofficial transcripts. To be sure you can include all the transcripts with your application, request them from the schools you attended at least two months prior to the deadline for submission of your application. Unofficial transcripts or Certified Copies are not acceptable. Do not open the sealed transcripts you send to us.

  • Official GMAT score report: Applicants to the Operations and Information Management and Marketing concentrations may submit either a GRE (OPIM prefers) or a GMAT (MKTG prefers) score. All other applicants must submit an official GMAT score report, regardless of their background. We do not have a minimum score requirement, however if you score below 550 we recommend you retake the exam. If you have not yet taken the exam, or if your score is more than five years old, you should schedule to take the exam.

    GMAT test registration: GMAT.
GMAT Scores should be sent to Institution code CV2-CO-20.

GRE test registration: Educational Testing Service (ETS)
GRE Scores should be sent to Institution code 3915.

  • Statement of Purpose (Send electronically from your e-mail address to PHDapplication@business.uconn.edu): Please write an essay describing your main strengths and why you wish to undertake a doctoral program in your intended area of concentration. As part of this essay, also describe how the doctoral program fits into your long-term interests and objectives.

  • Current Resume (Send electronically from your e-mail address to PHDapplication@business.uconn.edu)

  • Three Letters of Recommendation: (Must be sent electronically from YOUR RECOMMENDER e-mail address to PHDapplication@business.uconn.edu) There is no specific form for letters of recommendation. To the extent possible, these letters should be from academic faculty, and should comment on the applicant’s potential for intensive doctoral studies, ability and motivation for scholarly research, and teaching capacity.

  • Application Fee: The application fee is $55 for the Graduate School electronic application. This fee is nonrefundable and must be paid by credit card (Visa, Mastercard, or Discover). This fee cannot be waived or deferred. An application will not be officially received, and thereafter reviewed by the admissions committee, if the application fee has not been paid.

NON-US APPLICANTS

In addition to the items listed above, international applicants should pay careful attention to the following requirements:

  • English Proficiency:

International students who are not native speakers of English must submit evidence of their proficiency in the English language. The School of Business PhD Program requires a test of SPOKEN English.

Effective for fall 2010 admissions, the School of Business will NOT waive the TOEFL or IELTS requirement for those international applicants who have received a university degree in the United States, or a degree in a program with English as the language of instruction.

The School of Business PhD Program Admissions will ACCEPT ONLY scores from the internet-based TOEFL iBT or the IELTS. TOEFL iBT and IELTS scores should be sent to the Graduate School, code 3915.

Note on Teaching Assistant positions: Upon arrival to campus, the student will be given Pearson's Versant for English Test (Phone Pass). If a valid TOEFL iBT score with a speaking subscore of 28 or higher or an IELTS speaking band score of 8.0 or higher is submitted, the student will have met certification of English proficiency and will not need to take the Phone Pass test. (The student is responsible for the cost of Phone Pass test which is $45) Students must have passed this requirement to have instructional contact.

  • Official Transcripts: International applicants must supply official copies of academic transcripts from all university studies. These transcripts must be accompanied by an official English translation of each document.

  • Degree Statements: The Graduate School also requires all International Applicants to provide an official Statement of Degree, for each University where a degree was awarded. Each official Degree Statement must be accompanied by an official English translation.

  • International Students must complete the Financial Declaration Form
