Pre-Law Study

The University of Connecticut does not offer a formal or designated major or course of study in Pre-Law. However, students interested in attending law school are well served by the Business Law Department. The courses offered by the department are in scope, content and presentation, more similar to a law school course curriculum than other law related courses at the University. No doubt, a broad and diverse undergraduate course of study is still the best preparation for a successful legal career. Toward that end, a student would be well served in preparing for law school by mixing courses in the social study of law with Business Law courses steeped in legal principles and concepts.

In the Fall of 2004, to augment the educational experience of business students with law school interests, the Business Law Department shepherded the creation of the University of Connecticut Law and Business Society (Law Society). The Law Society is an undergraduate student organization with a faculty advisor from the Business Law Department that brings together students to share their common interest in law study. The Law Society provides access to a WebCT page with important links and information regarding topics of interest to students who are considering attending law school. The site provides a discussion forum for students to exchange ideas and comments on the law. The site also provides a recommended reading list to assist students in preparing for the professional study of law and legal practice. The Law Society sponsors events including movies, speakers, forums and other law related academic and social opportunities for undergraduate students.
