All students in the School of Business are required to successfully complete BLAW 3175, The Legal and Ethical Environment of Business. Consequently, the Business Law Department serves an invaluable service function for every academic discipline in the School of Business. Taking great care to see that every School of Business student is educated in the nature of legal proceedings and the interaction of law and business, the Business Law Department is also the student’s resource for exposure to ethical issues in the business community. The department’s important contribution to the education of tomorrow’s business leaders is not limited to the presentation of an introductory breadth course. Accounting students are required to take an additional Business Law course (BLAW 3277, Commercial Law; Legal and Ethical Aspects) that is geared toward exposing those students to the legal principles that are essential to successful accounting practice, as evidenced by the inclusion of these topics in the CPA examination. Additional courses in Real Estate Law (BLAW 3274), Business Organization and Governance (BLAW 3672), International Business Law (BLAW 3660), and Fundamentals of Business Law (BLAW 3671) provide further breadth and vision to those students interested in a fuller and richer business education.
