How to Apply - Current UConn Students

Applications to the School of Business for all business majors with the exception of Business and Technology are accepted during the first two weeks of the Fall and Spring semesters. During this time, students may receive an application from the School of Business, Room 121 and at all regional campuses.

Applications for the Business and Technology program are available during the first six weeks of each semester. Please visit this link for more information Business and Technology.

If you were admitted to the University into a school or college other than the School of Business, you may apply for admission once you have completed a minimum of 40 credits and have at least begun completion of some of the general education course requirements that stand as prerequisites for business courses such as English 1010 or 1011, Math 1070Q and 1071Q (or other approved combinations), Economics 1201 and 1202 , Statistics 1000Q or 1100Q, and Accounting 2001. Applications and information pertaining to course requirements and plans of study for each of the major areas of study in business may be obtained on our website or by contacting the Undergraduate Programs Office.

Admission to the School of Business is competitive and the School is limited in the number of students it can admit. Admission decisions are made on the basis of several criteria including course requirements completed, course grades, and semester and overall grade point averages. Space availability influences the grade point average necessary for admission. The School of Business Admissions Committee considers each application individually. Special circumstances do warrant careful consideration.

STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MEETING ALL UNIVERSITY AND DEGREE REQUIREMENTS. TAKE TIME TO REVIEW YOUR OWN PROGRESS.

There is no penalty for applying more than once. We encourage all prospective applicants to attend one of the information sessions offered each semester. At these, we will review any changes in admission criteria, majors, required courses, involvement opportunities in the School of Business, and what to do while you are seeking admission.

General Education and Program requirements for business students are somewhat different from those listed for other University of Connecticut schools and colleges. When registering and selecting courses that pertain to the business program, refer only to those listed in the University's General Catalog for the School of Business. You may visit the School of Business Undergraduate Programs Office to obtain detailed information sheets regarding business requirements and course sequencing. When choosing a course schedule, make sure you have met all course prerequisites and that the course in question has no credit restrictions. When choosing course combinations, try to balance the number of quantitative courses with the amount of reading involved in other courses.

Some general recommendations:

  • Language requirements should be completed as early as possible
  • Mathematics and English requirements should generally be taken during the Freshman year
  • Accounting, Economics, and Statistics courses are recommended for Sophomore year
