UConn School of Business Briefs - June 2008

Storrs, CT (6/26/2008) - Lisa Anne Cottrell Frank '08 Ph.D. (Finance) successfully defended her dissertation titled, "Essays on Real Estate Investment Trusts, Corporate Governance, Institutional Investment, and Corporate Exit Strategies", on May 20, 2008. Dr. Frank is an Associate Professor of Finance at Central Connecticut State University.

EMBA Alumni Golf for HOPE
Several UConn EMBA alumni took to the course in the 3rd Annual HOPE for Habitat Benefit Golf Outing on May 15th at Oak Ridge Golf Course in Feeding Hills, MA. Founded in 2005 by Enfield-based A.W. Hastings & Co., the New England distributor for Marvin Windows and Doors, the annual outing helps to raise money for the Greater Springfield Habitat for Humanity. The endeavor was dubbed the HOPE Project, an acronym for Hastings, Ownership, People & Empowerment.

The Connecticut Information Technology Institute (CITI) is pleased to announce the 2008 summer research funding awards to support IT and e-business research projects. Support is provided for the purpose of facilitating high quality research that is publishable in top tier academic journals. The four awards totaled $35,000 in research funding. Congratulations to the following successful proposals: Sarah Rice (Accounting), The Economics of Reputation in Online Auction Environment ($10,000); Girish Punj (Marketing), Do Consumers Make Smarter Purchase Decisions when Shopping Online? ($10,000); Po-Hsuan Hsu (Finance), Effects of Technology Capabilities on Expected Stock Returns ($10,000); and Mary Caravella (Marketing), Social Presence and negotiation in real and virtual environments ($5,000).

Full-Time MBA Class of 1998 10-Year Reunion
On June 7th several members of the Full-Time MBA Class of 1998 gathered for their 10-year reunion at the Wood-N-Tap in Hartford, CT. The UConn School of Business and members of the Northeast Utilities Finance Academy celebrate the completion of the Case Studies Program on June 16th at the Anthony Carmen Fishhouse in Wethersfield.
