Storrs, CT (5/8/2008) - 2008 Faculty Awards and Promotions Announced

A study in the latest issue of Communications of the ACM measures the impact of information systems research and productivity and ranks the University of Connecticut's Operations and Information Management department 16th worldwide. The analysis included research performed at over 4,000 institutions.

Kevin McMahon will be joining the School of Business as our new Assistant Director of Development. Kevin comes to us from the University of Connecticut Foundation, where he served as a Program Director of Leadership Gifts over the last year and a half. Kevin will report to Director of Development Diana Timlin.

Morris K. George '08 Ph.D. (Marketing) successfully defended his dissertation titled, "Essays on Cross-buying in a Non-Contractual Setting: Why, What, When and How Much?", on May 5, 2008. Dr. George joins the faculty at Baylor University.

Ling Lei '08 Ph.D. (Accounting) successfully defended her dissertation titled, "Auditor-provided Tax Services and 'Last-chance' Earnings Management: The Importance of Audit Committees", on April 24, 2008. Dr. Lei joins the faculty at the George Mason University.

J. Andrew Peterson '08 Ph.D. (Marketing) successfully defended his dissertation titled, "Essays on Product Returns: The Impact of Customer Product Return Behavior on Profitability", on April 29, 2008. Dr. Petersen joins the faculty at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Denish Shah '08 Ph.D. (Marketing) successfully defended his dissertation titled, "An Integrated Framework for Managing Marketing Productivity when Selling Through Intermediary Firms", on April 29, 2008. Dr. Shah joins the faculty at the Georgia State University.

Luke A. Weinstein '08 Ph.D. (Marketing) successfully defended his dissertation titled, "Technology, Adoption, and Performance in the Sales Force", on May 7, 2008. Dr. Weinstein is currently Director of the UConn School of Business Innovation Accelerator.

On Friday April 4th, 2008 the UConn School of Business co-sponsored a panel discussion entitled, "Wanted Dead or Alive, Your Business Data. How The Federal Government Deputizes Business in the War on Terror." The program was held at the UConn Graduate Business Learning Center. Appearing on the panel were Attorney Steven Reynolds of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Attorney Edgardo Ramos of the law firm of Day Pitney and Attorney Melissa Goodman of the American Civil Liberties Union. Panel Moderator duties were handled by Professor William Dunlop of Quinnipiac Law School. UConn Assistant Professor in Residence in Business Law, Mark DeAngelis, served on the program planning committee and contributed to the framing of the issues for the panelists by titling and structuring the program.
