Graduation Ceremony Held at UConn – Stamford for the YES I Can Program’s Students

(10/19/2009) -

On Saturday August 22, 2009 a commencement ceremony was held at the University of Connecticut’s Stamford Campus for the YES I Can program students. The YES I Can program is comprised of Danbury/Bethel and Stamford/Bridgeport area students. It is a three-week intensive summer course with instruction in SAT preparation for math, language arts, and science. Every year students apply to this elite program and receive quality instruction, as well as extensive preparation for careers in the business and science fields.

Each year UConn – Stamford opens up its doors to host the YES I Can Program’s students, instructors, and founders. The students get a glimpse into college life and what it’s like to take classes at a university campus. Students also work closely with UConn faculty in exploring career options and discussing academic paths. During the graduation ceremony, two UConn representatives, Dr. Willena Price and Ms. Seanice Austin, offered their guidance and expertise to the YES I Can students regarding college admissions and specifically UConn’s high academic standards and admissions process.

Students who graduate officially from the YES I Can Program as high school seniors are connected with the various representatives of UConn’s many schools of study, especially the business school, and offered one-on-one guidance and help through the admissions process. Many students from the YES I Can Program have gone on to receive prestigious degrees from the University of Connecticut.

The YES I Can Program’s graduation ceremony marks the culmination of a summer of hard work and commitment for area students and their instructors. It is a symbol of the caliber student it takes to model success in an ever growing and competitive career hunt. These students develop the tools needed to surpass competition in their transition from high school to college, and beyond. The YES I Can program is home for seventeen Danbury area students who serve as exemplars of stellar students in their specific school districts.
