“Opportunity Knocks” Campaign Brings in 100 New Jobs for UConn Students and Alumni

(6/18/2009) -

Understanding how the economy has greatly challenged the job prospects for UConn students, the UConn School of Business Career Center embarked upon a campaign to identify new jobs and internships for our students.  The great success of this program has introduced 100 new positions available to undergraduates, MBAs and alumni.

The positions posted included junior accountant, business development manager, director of relationship management, website publishing, among others and were located both in-state and as far as Taipei, Taiwan.  Most of these positions were submitted by alumni in mid-management or line management, and most of them have already been filled.  Students and alumni looking for other jobs may find them in the BCC database, as well as in the Business Alumni Network.

By reaching 100 positions, the Opportunity Knocks campaign is only halfway to its goal.  The Business Career Center aims to gather a total of 200 new job postings during this campaign, which ends September 2009.

"Although the job market seems to be recovering and hiring is now picking up, upon graduation placement of both our seniors and MBA's was running over one third below a year ago - not surprising, and better than some other schools.  Salaries compared to last year are actually holding up very well," notes Jud Saviskas, Executive Director, Business Career Center.  This economy has greatly affected the job prospects for our students. Whether a company has only one job opening or several, and whether it’s at a Fortune 500 company or an entrepreneurial start-up, the Business Career Center at the School of Business very much wants to make the students and alumni aware of it.

Be a part of this circle of opportunity.  Share job postings with UConn students on our Business Alumni Network http://alumni.business.uconn.edu.  Alumni in transition are also encouraged to register and utilize the online alumni career services at the Business Career Center Online through the Business Alumni Network.
