Robert C. Bird Presents at Two Universities in Finland
(4/17/2009) -
This past March, Robert C. Bird, Assistant Professor in the Marketing Department & Ackerman Scholar, was invited to present his research on legal strategy and international intellectual property to two universities in Finland: the University of Turku law school and the Turku University of Applied Sciences. This invitation grew into a week-long visit where Bird presented his research to faculty, undergraduates, and graduate students.
During his visit, Bird was invited to teach a short 'US Employment law' course to Finnish undergraduate law students and lectured on the same topic to international business students in a "Doing Business in North America" course. He also gave a one hour presentation on Foreign Direct Investment and Regulation to Finnish and foreign international business students. Bird also sat in as a guest faculty advisor helping prepare law students for an international moot court competition. Bird was able to discuss his international research in formal and informal meetings with the Schools’ deans and research faculty. Other topics of discussion included law as a source of competitive advantage, international contract law treaty and pharmaceutical drug gray markets.
Bird’s productive visit to Finland supports the UConn School of Business’s goal of developing relationships with international schools. Faculty visits such as this aid the School in becoming globally recognized for excellence in academics and research in a dynamic global business context.
