Two New Executive Education Programs Launched (2/4/2008) - The UConn School of Business recently launched two new customized executive education programs: the Business Mastery Program for Public Service Professionals and the Northeast Utilities Graduate Business Studies Program. The Business Mastery Program for Public Service Professionals was developed by the UConn School of Business in conjunction with a state-wide Public Service Consortium. The program was designed to deliver valuable management concepts and skills to professionals working in public service positions in State government or in government agencies. “We are extremely pleased to offer this mastery program for public service professionals,” said Dr. Shanta Hegde, associate dean for graduate programs and interim director of executive education at the School of Business. “It delivers highly tailored education and instruction to a specialized group and allows UConn an opportunity to fulfill part of our mission and commitment to the State of CT as a land grant institution.” With 27 State of Connecticut professionals enrolled, the new two-course business mastery program kicked off on January 23rd. The first course, Introduction to Management, covers such topics as organizational skills, team effectiveness, negotiation skills, and mediation and conflict resolution. Introduction to Accounting, Finance, and Business Law, the program’s second course, will cover accounting basics, fundamentals of finance, government processes, and labor relations. Upon successful completion of the program, a certificate from the School of Business will be awarded. Participants can also apply for undergraduate or graduate credit. The Northeast Utilities (NU) Graduate Business Studies Program is a new leadership development program designed to provide NU participants with exposure to business, industry and financial concepts as well as serve as a precursor to an accredited UConn MBA degree. The program, which takes less than one year to complete, consists of three core MBA courses: Financial Accounting & Reporting, Operations Management, and Managing Organizations. The courses are specifically customized to NU. “Customization of the Northeast Utilities Graduate Business Studies Program was really important to us,” said David McHale, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of NU. “Integrating the specific needs and challenges of our organization, as well as the overall industry, ensures maximum relevance and value for our participants both academically and professionally.” The program is structured such that participants will progress through the courses in a cohort; this facilitates the building of networks, teams and relationships important for personal and professional development. 29 participants, primarily mid-level managers, from NU are enrolled in the program which began on January 24th. Participants who receive a grade of B- or better for each of the three courses will receive nine graduate level credits toward the UConn MBA degree as well as a UConn certificate upon completion of the program. Both executive educations programs are held at the UConn Graduate Business Learning Center in downtown Hartford. School of Business Pressroom Back to Previous Page |
