UConn School of Business Briefs - December 2007Storrs, CT (12/3/2007) - In this issue: Management professor accepts positions on editorial boards of three premier journals; UConn to host Women's Conference in 2008; Student Managed Fund members present to the Investment Advisory Board; and The Pampered Chef founder & CEO makes a visit. Assistant Professor of Management Zeki Simsek has been invited to join the editorial review boards of premier journals in the fields of management (Academy of Management Journal), entrepreneurship (Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice), and organizational research methods (Organizational Research Methods). Dr. Simsek also serves on the board of the Journal of Management Studies.UConn will host the 2008 National Association of Women MBAs (NAWMBA) Conference and Career Fair in Stamford on October 24-25. NAWMBA is dedicated to empowering women MBAs and graduate women in business to propel more women into leadership positions in corporate America and to enhance the diversity of the nation's workforce. The 2007 conference, held in early November, was hosted by the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland in College Park. On Friday, November 30th, the current graduate and undergraduate members of the School of Business Student Managed Fund presented their 2007 half-yearly portfolio report to the Investment Advisory Board at the UConn Stamford Campus. Both teams of managers had 30 minutes to report their portfolio research, methodology, investments and returns followed by in depth questions from the Investment Advisory Board members and special investment management guests. Jointly, the School's Student Managed Investment Fund managers are responsible for over $2 million in assets of the University of Connecticut Foundation, Inc. Dr. Chinmoy Ghosh, head of the Department of Finance and director of the program proudly adds “Our student managers have once again impressed the Investment Advisory Board with their investment acumen and professionalism. To date, the student managers have outperformed the S&P 500. That is outstanding performance in these turbulent times. The IAB members and the guests were particularly impressed with the managers' group dynamics and disciplined approach to money management". The Pampered Chef founder and CEO, Doris Christopher, visited UConn on November 14th to speak with aspiring entrepreneurs before delivering the keynote address at the 2007 Connecticut Family Business of the Year Awards ceremony.
