NSHMBA, the nation’s most prestigious Hispanic organization promoting higher education, established the scholarship program 16 years ago to assist qualified Hispanics to pursue MBAs. Scholarships are offered each year for full and part-time study at an AACSB accredited institution of the student's choice. Recipients are selected on the basis of academic achievement, work experience, financial need, personal statement of goals and aspirations, community service, letters of recommendation, and NSHMBA ambassadorship. Monica has been involved with NSHMBA for over five years and served on the board of the CT Chapter for four years as Treasurer and VP, Marketing. Monica will receive official recognition later this fall at NSHMBA’s 18th Annual Conference and Career Expo in Houston, TX. Monica also received the Janet and Leo Hansen Scholarship in the amount of $2,500. Established in 2002 by Janet (’78 MBA) and Leo (’80 MBA) Hansen, the scholarship provides financial support for students enrolled in the UConn School of Business in Stamford. The Hansen scholarship recipient must be an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled full time in the School at the University’s Stamford Campus; demonstrate financial need; and demonstrate academic achievement. “We are proud to be able to give to the University in return for the opportunities that our MBA educations from UConn have given us,” said Janet, who is also a member of both the School of Business Board of Advisors and the UConn Foundation Board. “We hope that our scholarship funds will allow students to fulfill their dreams and begin rewarding and successful careers. We have been very blessed both professionally and personally, and felt that it was truly time for us to give back.” Janet Hansen is the retired Chairman and CEO.of Aquarion Water Company, one of the ten largest investor-owned water utilities in the U.S. Leo Hansen was the director of Information Systems at Rayonier, Inc., an international forest products company.
