Technology at the School of Business

The School of Business Information Technology Services Department provides technology support services to the School of Business user population consisting of faculty, staff and students spread over five locations: Storrs, Stamford, West Hartford, the Travelers Education Center in Hartford, and Waterbury. The services provided include:

  • Support of the new Mobile Computing Program
  • Technical support and troubleshooting: solving users’ hardware, software and networking problems
  • Setting up new machines for the users, software installation, connection to campus network
  • Upgrading of users’ hardware and software
  • Three classroom and student access computer labs
  • Providing liaison services to the university computer center to obtain mainframe accounts, IP addresses, and network connections
  • Application development: relational database design and implementation of staff, faculty, external relations, and MBA applications
  • Server and network administration of 15 servers in Storrs, Hartford, and Stamford
  • Website development, maintenance and administration
  • Training of users on selected software

We currently service more than 300 computers located on the five campuses, including staff and faculty computers and network servers. We also support and maintain hundreds of printers in the various locations.

The department is staffed by 8 full-time employees. Student labor (18-20 students per semester) is used throughout the academic year to monitor the labs in Storrs. In addition, 9 students on a 10 hour-per-week schedule are used for technical support and troubleshooting.
