Professor Tolbert is Professor and chair of the Department of Organizational Behavior. She came to the ILR School in 1983 after receiving her Ph.D. in sociology from UCLA. She is broadly interested in processes of organizational change, the role of organizations in social stratification, and the impact of occupations on organizational structures. Her current research includes studies of the use of tenure systems by higher education organizations, the effects of organizational and occupational demography on career patterns, and the effects of earnings differences within dual-career couples on spousal relationships. She has served on the editorial boards of

Administrative Science Quarterly, American Sociological Review, Journal of Technology Management, Organization Science, Organization and Environment and Sociological Forum. She has also served as the book review editor for Administrative Science Quarterly, and as an associate editor for Management Science; she is currently an associate editor for the Academy of Management Review.

Professor Wesley Sine

Professor Sine's research focuses on the emergence of new economic sectors. He explores issues related to institutional change, industry and technology evolution, technology entrepreneurship, and new venture structure and strategy. He has examined a diverse set of economic sectors ranging from the electric power industry to the emergence of the Internet.

Sine has published, provisionally accepted, or papers forthcoming in the following journals: Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Management Science, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, and Research Policy. Teaching interests include entrepreneurship, commercializing university technology, new venture growth, the management of technology and innovation, and organizational change.
