UConn’s flagship full-time MBA program offers students a practical, comprehensive, and individualized business education that truly integrates basic business fundamentals, innovative experiential learning, and personal interests. This carefully blended curriculum differentiates a UConn MBA graduate and uniquely positions him/her for career success.
Essential to UConn’s MBA curriculum is the incorporation of innovative experiential learning accelerators – UConn/GE edgelab, SS&C Technologies Financial Accelerator, Innovation Accelerator, Student Managed Fund, and Sustainable Community Outreach & Public Engagement (SCOPE) program. These unique practice-based initiatives integrate traditional teaching and classroom experience with high-profile business partnering to close the gap between theory and practice.
The UConn MBA program also offers a number of international learning opportunities that allow students to participate in a variety of international electives abroad. These 1-2 week courses are typically held in January, May and during other break periods to minimize conflict with regular semester coursework.
Year 1 of the program follows a lock-step format in which all students go through the core curriculum together – no exceptions. The first year curriculum guarantees a core set of knowledge for every UConn MBA student. The first year core curriculum covers fundamentals across all business disciplines including pre-term work on business law and ethics; a multi-semester project, the Application of Core Teaching (ACT), the first formal exposure to experiential and integrated learning; as well as a non-credit seminar series focused on enhancing personal, team and communication skills for the workplace.
In the spring of Year 1, MBA students develop an Individualized Plan of Study in consultation with an advisory committee comprised of business school faculty, career counselors, and alumni/experts in the field. A student’s individualized plan of study consists of 8 courses (24 credits) including a primary area of emphasis, 1-2 courses (3-6 credits) of experiential learning, and carefully selected electives. Ultimately, the approved plan is a coherent bundle of courses and experiences that best aligns with the student’s personal career goals and objectives.
After fulfilling the summer Internship Milestone, MBA students continue with Year 2, pursuing the customized plan of study developed and approved in Year 1. Most, if not all, 2nd year course offerings will be delivered in Hartford, Stamford and/or Waterbury to best coordinate with the experiential learning centers where students will be participating.
The Full-Time MBA program at UConn offers students a practical, comprehensive business education that truly integrates basic business fundamentals with innovative experiential learning. This carefully blended curriculum is what yields the highly desirable real-world experience that today’s global businesses demand.
UConn MBA students take a total of 57 credits (19 three-credit courses) in the program. The first year of the program is a lock-step structure in which all students go through together - no exceptions. After participating in a summer internship, students return for their second year in which they begin to focus on their area of specialization and participate in experiential learning accelerators.
