A message from the EREI Initiative & Exemplars Conference Co-Chairs

The vision of the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management is to grow entrepreneurship scholars. The Division, therefore, seeks to promote excellence in entrepreneurship research across multiple scholarly disciplines. To motivate such scholarly growth both increased visibility and increased availability of help become the focus. Accordingly, in this effort to both honor entrepreneurship research excellence and serve as a catalyst to increase the volume and quality of manuscript flow of top-tier entrepreneurship research, the Division has launched “The Entrepreneurship Research Excellence Initiative (EREI).” EREI is currently comprised of The IDEA Awards and the Entrepreneurship Research Exemplars Conference. - Ron Mitchell & Rich Dino, EREI & Conference Co-Chairs

The IDEA Awards (Celebrated Annually in August of each year at AoM)
The IDEA Awards are a yearly gathering of research pioneers, thought leaders, emerging scholars, and key editors representing top tier journals where increasing excellence in entrepreneurship research impacts multi-disciplinary fields. The IDEA Awards honor research excellence across and beyond the Entrepreneurship Division in the following categories: Foundational Paper Research; Thought Leader Research; and Research Promise Scholarship.

The Entrepreneurship Research Exemplars Conference (May 28-30, 2009)
The Inaugural Entrepreneurship Research Exemplars Conference was a “new-format” invited best practices conference at the University of Connecticut for advancing top-tier research in entrepreneurship. The inaugural conference featured two types of sessions: Journal Editors and Authors Panels, and Keynote Addresses. It was the intent that both the Editors/Authors Panels and Keynote Addresses will serve as a new set of transparent milestones for encouraging and accelerating the successful publishing of top-tier Entrepreneurship research from multi-disciplinary, highly committed scholars. All sessions were web-streamed and recorded for future downloading, and have been made available to all entrepreneurship researchers on both the AoM’s Entrepreneurship Division and University of Connecticut’s CCEI websites. Registration for Distance Participants
All sessions of the 2010 Entrepreneurship Research Exemplars Conference will be broadcast live on the internet, and also recorded for future viewing and downloading. Distance participants watching the live sessions will be able to post questions and comments to the moderators, making involvement possible for viewers across the globe. If you are unable to watch the live webstreaming but want notification when the session videos become available online, please register using the same form and a link will be emailed to you when the session videos become available for viewing and downloading. Location
The inaugural Entrepreneurship Research Exemplars Conference was held at the University of Connecticut School of Business, and the University is looking forward to its second hosting role for the 2010 conference. The University's campus is situated in a delightful rural setting located in the heart of New England. Nearby holiday destinations include Cape Cod (Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket Island), Newport Rhode Island, Mystic Seaport, the forest and mountains of Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire as well as Boston and New York City. Participants were housed on campus at the Nathan Hale Inn and Conference Center.

Conference Format & Events
While the conference format may vary slightly from year to year, the basic structure will focus on two types of sessions - keynote addresses from representative field leaders in entrepreneurship, and interactive panel discussions among entrepreneurship scholars at various phases in their careers. The conference will traditionally be held in late May for two days, starting on a Thursday evening and ending Saturday afternoon. The Friday night event of the conference is a fun location-themed event (ex. New England Clambake when hosted at UConn) designed to allow participants an opportunity to interact and network with new and long-standing colleagues.

Future Conference Information
In 2011, the Conference will be hosted by the Fisher School of Business at The Ohio State University. In 2012, the Conference will be hosted by Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. Future conferences will further explore and develop the themes and aspects of entrepreneurship with attending participants and also electronically via live interactive webstreaming with scholars from across the globe.
