Excellence in Entrepreneurship Research Partnership

The CCEI is the Lead Partner of the Academy of Management Entrepreneurship Division in support of the division's Research Excellence Initiative. The purpose of the Research Excellence Initiative is to serve as a cornerstone activity that supports the Vision: "We grow entrepreneurship scholars." Of course there are many facets that make up scholarly growth that is research-excellence focused. One of the most widely accepted for its effectiveness is leadership by example. It is essential for "growing scholars" to have exemplars after whom they can pattern their own individualized efforts to grow as scholars. The IDEA Awards fulfill this role in a targeted way:
  • The Foundational Paper Award (only one yearly) represents a classic and highly influential contribution to entrepreneurship research that serves as a legacy for scholarly work in the field;
  • The Thought Leader Awards are representative of the best published papers in entrepreneurship in the prior calendar year; and
  • The Research Promise Awards are given to authors whose work has been selected by the Academy of Management as a winner of the Entrepreneurship Division Research Awards.
The IDEA Awards Dinner, held during the AoM Annual Meeting in August, gathers journal editors in company with scholars in Entrepreneurship to celebrate research that has been "foundational," provided "research leadership" during the last year, or has shown "research promise" from new scholars.

There is also another component of the Research Excellence Initiative: the Entrepreneurship Research Exemplars Conference — an invited mini-Conference for growing researchers in entrepreneurship, to be held May 28-30, 2009 at UConn and at The Ohio State University in May of 2010.

At the Entrepreneurship Research Exemplars Conference, top-tier journal editors, peer-review-selected promising scholars, and accomplished top-tier-publishing scholars will craft an agenda for growing entrepreneurship scholars - both individually, and with the entire entrepreneurship research community through a distance-participation component.
