UConn Social Entrepreneurship In Guatemala (May 25 - July 19)

Social Entrepreneurship is a process of lifting people out of poverty by empowering them with the skills and resources to create and run their own businesses. This extraordinary, eight-week long, nine-credit internship program will involve you working on development projects in the highlands of Guatemala while becoming conversant in Spanish and more knowledgeable about Mayan culture. No prior language study required.
Sponsored by the School of Business and the Honors Program in coordination with The Social Entrepreneur Corps, this program will start in Antigua where you’ll live with homestay families. After some preparatory course work, you will travel in small groups working on individual and group development projects. For your final project, you will have funding set aside that you will invest in the local businesses that you choose to analyze. There will also be time to climb volcanoes and hike in the Guatemalan highlands. Following your return to the USA you will work under an advisor to develop a formal research report and participate in a university symposium to share your experiences with the greater University community.
There are generous Ed Satell Social Entrepreneurship Scholarships available to students with demonstrated financial need.
