Carol Saunders is currently Professor of Management Information Systems (MIS) at the University of Central Florida. She served as General Conference Chair of ICIS’99 and Telecommuting ’96. She is an AIS Fellow and has served on a number of editorial boards, including a three-year term as Editor-in-Chief of MIS Quarterly. She currently is the Senior Editor of the IS Research Perspectives section of Journal of the Association of Information Systems (JAIS). She recently returned from Austria as the Distinguished Fulbright Scholar at the Wirtschafts Universitaet – Wien (WU), and earlier held a Professional Fulbright with the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute. Her current research interests include the organizational impacts of information technology, overload, backsourcing, virtual teams, virtual worlds, and time. She has published her research in top-ranked MIS (MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of MIS, Communications of the ACM), management (Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review), and communication (Communication Research) journals.

Pär J. Ågerfalk is a Professor in the Department of Informatics and Media at Uppsala University, Sweden, where he holds the Chair in Computer Science in Intersection with Social Sciences. He received his PhD in Information Systems Development from Linköping University and has held fulltime positions at Örebro University, University of Limerick, Jönköping International Business School and Lero – The Irish Software Engineering Research Centre. Prof. Ågerfalk’s current research centres on open innovation, globally distributed and flexible software development methods and how information systems development and conceptual modeling can be informed by pragmatism. His work has appeared in a number of leading journals and conferences in the information systems area and he is currently a senior associate editor of the European Journal of Information Systems. Prof. Ågerfalk is the founding president of the AIS Special Interest Group on Pragmatist IS Research (SIGPrag) and was recently appointed Dean of the Swedish National Research School of Management and Information Technology.

Dr. Fichman received BS and MS degrees in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan (1982, 1983) and a Ph.D. from the MIT Sloan School of Management (1995). He joined the the Carroll School of Management in 1997. Prior to getting his PhD, he worked for several years as an IS applications development manager for a leading telecommunications company, and as an IT industry consultant.

Dr. Fichman’s research examines the assimilation and diffusion of IT innovations, and draws implications for adopters and suppliers about how to better manage the introduction of new technologies. Current areas of interest include applying real options to the evaluation and management of innovative IT investments, IT and healthcare, Web 2.0/social media, and understanding the linkage between IT investments and realized business value. He has published broadly on these topics in Communications of the ACM, California Management Review, Decision Sciences Journal, Harvard Business Review, IEEE Computer, Information Systems Research, Journal of the Association of Information Systems, Management Science, MIS Quarterly, Sloan Management Review and other scholarly journals.

Dr. Fichman currently serves on several editorial boards, including Senior Editor at Information Systems Research and at the Journal of the Association of Information Systems.

Gerald C. (Jerry) Kane is an Assistant Professor of Information Systems at the Carroll School of Management at Boston College. His research interests include using collaborative technologies (e.g. Web 2.0/ Social Media) for knowledge creation and sharing, the strategic use of information technology (particularly social media) to create business value in firms, and the role of information systems in social networks. Prof. Kane recently received a CAREER award from the National Science Foundation to continue pursuit of these interests in both research and teaching. His published research has appeared in Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, Organization Science, Harvard Business Review, DATABASE, Journal of Database Management, and Information & Management. Dr. Kane received his Ph.D. in Information Systems from the Goizueta Business School of Emory University.

Candida G. Brush is a Professor of Entrepreneurship and holder of the Paul T. Babson Chair in Entrepreneurship at Babson College. She is also Chair of the Entrepreneurship Division and a visiting adjunct Professor to the Norwegian School of Engineering and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway. Formerly, Dr. Brush was an Associate Professor of Strategy and Policy, founder and Director of the Council for Women’s Entrepreneurship and Leadership (CWEL), and Research Director for the Entrepreneurial Management Institute at Boston University. Dr. Brush teaches courses in Entrepreneurship in the undergraduate, MBA, doctoral, and Executive MBA programs. For two years, she was a Research Affiliate to Jonkoping International Business School, Jonkoping, Sweden. She received her DBA from Boston University, an MBA from Boston College and a BA from the University of Colorado.

She is a founding member of the Diana Project International, a research collaborative of scholars from 20 countries studying growth and financing strategies of women entrepreneurs world-wide. With her four co-researchers, she was named the 2007 recipient of the FSF- Swedish Research Foundation International Award for Outstanding Research Contributions in the Field of Entrepreneurship. Prentice Hall- Financial Times published their book, Clearing the Hurdles: Women Building High Growth Businesses (2004). Dr. Brush is the author of seven books, 20 book chapters and 90 articles published in scholarly journals including Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Learning and Education, Academy of Management Executive, and Annals of Political and Social Science. She is an Editor for Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and serves on the editorial review boards for Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Business Horizons and the International Journal of Female Entrepreneurship. She has written book chapters for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the International Labor Organization (ILO) on women’s entrepreneurship and economic development.

Dr. Brush was on the founding team for the Panel Study of Entrepreneurial Dynamics (PSED) a national study exploring start-up processes of nascent entrepreneurs, and was a co-recipient of the National Science Foundation Award as part of this research. She is the recipient of the Entrepreneurship Mentor Award, given by the National Academy of Management Entrepreneurship Division in recognition for her support and mentorship of doctoral students and new faculty researchers in the Entrepreneurship field. In 2008, she was inducted as a 21st Century Scholar by the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers. She has served on more than 15 PhD dissertation committees and mentored more than 25 doctoral students. Dr. Brush was one of 18 researchers selected to participate in the 1995 White House Conference Research Project: The Future of Small Business and Entrepreneurship into the Year 2010, and was recognized by INC Magazine in 1995 as one of the top 16 researchers in Entrepreneurship in the US. In 1997 she was appointed by the Secretary of Defense to the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS) and served for 3 years. She is on the Board of Directors of the Center for Women’s Business Research and Children Without Borders (Costa Rica), and serves on the Advisory Board for the Center for Women in Enterprise. She is a member of the Boston Harbor Angels and an active angel investor, serving on several boards of early stage private companies. She has advised hundreds of student businesses and new venture teams over the past 20 years.

Dean Shepherd is the Randall L. Tobias Chair in Entrepreneurial Leadership and Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University. Dean received his doctorate and MBA from Bond University (Australia) and a Bachelor of Applied Science from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. His research on entrepreneurial leadership includes the decision making of entrepreneurs, new venture strategy, learning from failure, and pursuit of opportunity. Focusing on these four streams described above Dean has published, or has accepted for publication, over 80 papers primarily in the top general management journals (Academy of Management Review, Journal of Management, Management Science, Organization Science and the Strategic Management Journal), top general operations journals (European Journal of Operational Research) and the top entrepreneurship journals (Journal of Business Venturing and Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice). Professor Shepherd is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Business Venturing (the top international journal on innovation/entrepreneurship) and on the review board for numerous top management and entrepreneurship journals. He is also a panelist for the National Science Foundation (Innovation and Organizational Science panel).

Mike Wright
Professor of Financial Studies

Mike Wright is Professor of Financial Studies at Nottingham University Business School, and Director Centre for Management Buy-out Research, which he founded in 1986. He holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Ghent and is a visiting professor at EMLyon, Erasmus University and University of Ghent. He has published over 50 books and 300 academic papers on private equity, divestment, strategy and entrepreneurship in emerging economies, academic entrepreneurs, habitual entrepreneurs, returnee entrepreneurs and related topics. Mike was recently ranked number 1 worldwide for publications in entrepreneurship and is winner of the Academy of Management Entrepreneurship Division’s Mentor Award for 2009 and the AMLE Outstanding Editorial Board Reviewer Award for 2009. He is a former editor of Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and recently completed seven years as an editor of Journal of Management Studies. He is currently an associate editor of Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal and an editor of Journal of Technology Transfer. He is a member of the British Venture Capital Association Research Advisory Board. His latest books include Private Equity Demystified; Management Buyouts and Private Equity; Entrepreneurial Teams and Academic Entrepreneurship in Europe. Mike has contributed extensively to the media and organised the first conference on management buyouts and private equity in 1981. He is a regular presenter at business conferences and teaches highly rated MBA courses on Private Equity and Venture Capital.
