UConn Professor John Clapp, who has been recognized as one of the top real estate researchers in the world, has been named the first Kinnard Distinguished Research Scholar in the business school’s Center for Real Estate.
Clapp, of West Hartford, is a long-time professor of real estate and finance at the UConn School of Business. His areas of expertise include real estate and retail markets, housing price indices, location of anchor stores, option to redevelopment and Connecticut housing. His statistical methods for tracking the evolution of property prices over space and time were featured at a meeting of the International Association of Assessing Officers and subsequently published in the Journal of Property Tax Assessment and Administration. His extensive research on that topic has resulted in numerous articles in scholarly journals. Clapp also served as the Director for the Center for Real Estate and Urban Economic Studies from 2009 to 2012.
Center Director John Glascock noted that the UConn program has been consistently ranked No. 1 in the world for real estate research and that Clapp’s many contributions have contributed greatly to that ranking.
The Kinnard Distinguished Research Scholar is a new position named in honor of William Kinnard, who became the Center’s first director in 1965. He served in that role until 1969, when he became Associate Dean of the School of Business.
In addition to its research ranking, The Center has consistently been recognized as one of the Top 10 educational real estate programs by U.S. News and World Report for the last 15 years. Its strong academic credentials are matched by an emphasis on real-world problem-solving presented by faculty with deep and diverse professional experience. The Center also provides numerous services to Connecticut’s real estate professionals and to the Department of Consumer Protection.
